We might also know how powerful the diesel RS will be.
Just as Volkswagen announced that the Golf 8 GTI would be launched in 2020 and its practical Czech counterpart Skoda has confirmed that the Octavia RS will launch next year. The lengthy press release today on the regular model reveals that there is one sentence that caught our eye: “Later, in 2020, the rugged Octavia Scout will be joined by the sporty Octavia RS.”
We’ll be able to see the performance and the versatile versions. Scout It features a lifted wagon silhouette with extra plastic body cladding. This is the off-road-oriented version and a sister model to the Octavia. VW Golf Alltrack It will likely come standard with an all-wheel drive system and a dual-clutch auto transmission.
The Octavia RS is a practical version of the Golf GTI. It has almost the same mechanical parts as the GTI. Skoda won’t reveal the details of the technical specifications, but the hot hatch will offer 250 horsepower in its base form and close the 290 horsepower in the GTI TCR which is due in 2020. Officially, both Grand Tourer Injection flavors will use a turbocharged gasoline engine of 2.0-liter capacity.
Wolfsburg has announced a new diesel-powered GTD. There are also reasons to believe that Skoda will offer an equivalent Octavia RS TDI. The press release actually mentions that the 2.0-liter TDIs could have as much as 200 horsepower – a number likely reserved for the Octavia RS which runs on Devil’s Fuel. This powerful diesel engine will also be offered with an optional all-wheel drive layout. Customers will again be able get the Octavia RS with a diesel engine and AWD.
The regular Octavia will be available on November 11, with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines as well as two plug-in hybrids and a pair gasoline mild hybrids. There will also be an eco-friendly variant that runs on compressed natural gas.
