The new range topper is likely to have more than 300 horsepower if it gets the approval.
Skoda’s sporty RS models could be in danger of disappearing. In fact, VW’s Czech brand is considering doing the opposite and adding new models to the existing Octavia RS 220/RS 230. Michael Irmer, Skoda Australia Director made the announcement in an interview with Motoring. He mentioned that the company is evaluating the possibility of releasing a Superb RS.
If such a version were to become reality, it would have to be faster and more powerful than the current Superb equipped with the 2.0 TSI engine. It produces 280 horsepower (206 kilowatts), and 258 lbft (350 Newton-meters), of torque. This powerful unit is available only in the Style, Laurin & Klement and Sportsline trims, which have an all-wheel-drive layout and a six speed DSG. It enables the midsize liftback and wagon hit 62 mph (100 kph) in 5.8 seconds and max out at an electronically-capped 155 mph (250 kph).
The potential Superb RS will easily exceed 300 hp and run the sprint in the lower 5s to earn the badge and the premium. The Octavia RS can be purchased with a 2.0-liter TDI. So, it is possible that the Superb RS may also get the diesel treatment if it is approved by Skoda’s execs.
Werner Eichhorn is the global sales and marketing director of the company. He said that the new Kodiaq SUV could be a potential candidate for spawning a hot-flavored RS derivative. According to Werner Eichhorn, a member of the company’s global sales and marketing board, a Kodiaq RS has been analyzed to determine if there is a large enough market to warrant its existence. However, the Fabia RS was ruled out due to the high cost to people who shop in the B-segment.
The Octavia RS facelift will be available in the coming months. It is likely to be available in RS 230 or RS 245 flavors, to match the facelifted 230 horsepower VW Golf GTI as well as the 245 horsepower Golf GTI Performance.
