The most affordable model starts at EUR17,558 after you take into account the applicable government incentive.
Smart’s three electric vehicles are now available in Germany, where there is a nice incentive program that lowers the price. For Two Coupe orders are already being taken, and For Four Electric Drive orders will follow in May.
For Two Coupe is the cheapest Smart EV money you can buy. It costs EUR21,940, or EUR17,558.84 after taking into account the applicable green bonus. The For Four is priced at EUR22,600. However, once you add the incentive, it drops to EUR18,220. The For Two Cabrio electric drive, which costs EUR25,200, or just below EUR21,000 when you add the eco bonus, will be the most expensive.
Smart is happy to sell you an For Two Electric Drive Green flash for EUR27,839. Add the incentive, and the asking price will drop down to EUR23.459. The car will be equipped with a variety of exterior and interior design accents in electric green to compensate for the extra cash.
The EVs will share an electric motor that delivers 81 horsepower (60 kilowatts), and instant torque of 160 Newton meters (118 pound-feet), to the rear wheels. The electronic speed limiter will kick in at 130 km/h (almost 81 MPH), while the battery pack will have enough juice to last approximately 160 km (just shyly of 100 miles).
Smart will offer a 22-kW fast charger starting in the fall for EUR840. This will recharge your battery in 45 minutes.
The “acoustic presence detector” is an interesting option. It costs EUR120 and can make a sound similar to a car with a combustion engine to alert everyone about its presence.
Smart claims it will begin deliveries in June. According to recent reports, Smart will begin to phase out gasoline-powered models starting in September. The 2018MY For Two Coupe (For Four isn’t available in the US) and Cabrio will likely be EV-only.
