The prototype looks like a hybrid, judging by the lime green brake discs.
Even though the second-generation Panamera feels fresh compared to rivals such as the Mercedes CLS and AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupes, Porsche has already begun to update the sleek liftback. Spy shots of the more practical wagon version have been shown (Sport Turismo in Porsche’s terminology), so now it’s time to test the standard model while out and about with some sneaky camouflage.
How sneaky is that? The prototype looks almost unobtrusive at first glance. Zoom in to see the black tape covering the front bumper and tailgate. The fake stickers on the taillights hide the true design. Large 21-inch wheels suggest a higher-spec variant. We’d bet on the Turbo E-Hybrid, judging from the lime green brake discs. We also believe that this model is the best.
Although spy images of the interior are not yet available, it is likely that updates will be minimal since the Panamera’s current interior is still tech-rich. Porsche must have been testing something, as we can see a wire attached to a device on the dashboard. This is specifically visible on top of the cluster of instruments.
A mid-cycle refresh of the Panamera could bring with it an expanded lineup, considering that rumours are circulating that Porsche plans to release two-door coupe as well as convertible versions. According to some reports, the 928’s spiritual successor and its droptop counterpart will be available as soon as 2020. This would coincide with the facelift. We’d still recommend taking this rumor with a pinch of salt, as we haven’t seen any prototypes of the so-called 929.
The Panamera facelift with mild-hybrid tech for improved low-end response time and efficiency will be revealed before the year ends.
