Video of snow plow operator making huge mistakes
Ohio turned what should have been a simple Sunday afternoon drive into something very different. The Ohio Turnpike was flooded with snow by a snowplow, which caused crashes as well as massive damage to uninitiated cars.
According to reports, the incident caused damage to more than 40 vehicles.
A video was posted on and shows the snowplow running at the same speeds as other vehicles, while clearing its side. The snowplow also pours loads of debris onto the lane in front.
According to Cleveland News the incident occurred at approximately 1:46 PM (local time), near milepost 112. Ray Santiago, a Highway Patrol spokesperson, said that at least 12 people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A YouTube video from MLive shows the damage to the vehicles. Some vehicles have broken windshields while others were damaged by hitting other motorists or the guard rails. This video has been embedded at the top of this page.
Charles Cyrill, a spokesperson for the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, stated that the snowplow driver had been working with the Ohio Turnpike from December 2015. After the incident, he was immediately sent to mandatory drug and alcohol testing and is currently on administrative leave.
Cyrill pointed out that snow plow drivers received extensive training and the right equipment to do their job. Cyrill said that this is a rare incident involving one operator.
Cyrill stated that the Ohio Turnpike was one of the nation’s most safe highways and was especially well-known for its ability to withstand severe weather events.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol will contact each person who was affected by the incident. They may also file a claim for property damage with the Ohio Turnpike.
