Somebody Converted a Chevy Pickup into a Halo-Inspired Warthog

This street-legal replica of a video game took five years.

You don’t often see a live-action version of a sci-fi videogame character. This amazing replica of the M12 recon car – also known as the Warthog from Halo video game series – doesn’t have a futuristic hydrogen engine to power it. Although it doesn’t have an independent off-road suspension, this is not due to the lack of such technology. This is because the backbone is a 1980 Chevy pickup. However, there aren’t many parts of the original truck.

Who would ever build something like this? Bryant Havercamp is a telephone technician from a rural area of Michigan. He is a huge Halo enthusiast and a skilled engineer. This entire project was built by him over five years. Yes, all by himself. This includes everything, from the bodywork, custom cage, lights and powertrain to helping the beast turn. He did a lot of CAD work to make it all possible. His skill is clearly superior to that of a typical telephone tech.

All gauges and digital readouts work properly. The Warthog-tusks at the front were made by Havercamp over two weeks. There was a lot of grinding, welding and welding involved. He also constructed the 350-cubic-inch Chevy V8 engine for Warthog, which unfortunately runs on regular gasoline. It’s street legal, with all the necessary mirrors, lights and turn signals present and in place.

It’s legal street in rural Michigan, where custom off-roaders don’t seem to be a problem. Although we don’t know how authorities would react if Havercamp drove the Warthog down Lakeshore Drive, Chicago, he claimed that he receives all sorts of positive attention wherever and whenever he goes. It’s hard to imagine.

This build is simply amazing. Gaming is not lazy or lacking motivation.
