Someone put a bonkers jet engine into a Smart ForTwo

It’s street legal and has 2,000 horsepower.

Telluride, Colorado is located high up in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. It is located at 8,750 feet above sea level. This makes for beautiful scenery, but it doesn’t make for a great place for people who love to drive fast. Telluride resident Bill Berg modified his 2008 Smart ForTwo. He added an afterburner jet engine to it. Wait, what?

It is true. The GE T58 jet engine makes this otherwise simple Smart ForTwo a single-seater. The engine’s various components and fuel systems also take up rear cargo space. They extend through the car and exit the rear in a very neat manner. This cuts into the Smart’s utility and the engine burns 15 gallons per minute. It’s also not economically viable.

This is unless the three-cylinder stock engine is still installed in the car for trips around the city. This cheeky Jet Car licenseplate isn’t for show. It is street legal and includes windshield wipers, air conditioning, and a license plate that says Jet Car . For everyday, normal use, the stock engine still turns it. With a large jet nozzle sticking out of the back, tailgaters won’t be a problem.

The afterburning turbojet is a great option for commutes that aren’t typical. The afterburning turbojet is sourced from a Huey helicopter. It can produce approximately 1,400 pounds thrust. This is multiplied by the afterburner, which can propel the Smart car to 170 MPH in just nine seconds. The top speed is 220 mph. However, we believe it could go faster if the courage remains.

Berg, who is part of Rocketbilly Racing, offers a Smart car powered by jets. It also features other crazy creations like a school bus that uses an F-4 Phantom fighter plane engine. The air in Telluride is thinner, but the water may be contaminated. We don’t care what’s happening up there.
