It is expected to be available for purchase in the second quarter of 2022.
The BMW X1 wore a camouflage wrap for the first time spy photographers captured it while testing. BMW decided to conceal the new design and only a small portion of the hood was visible. A new batch of spy photos taken 18 months ago shows that BMW is still not ready to unveil the new models. However, it cannot keep all details about the redesigned crossover secret.
Recent photos still show the crossover covered in camo. However, there is a noticeable difference at the rear where quad exhaust tips protrude from the bumper. The exhaust tips in the previous spy shots were absent, so this isn’t your regular X1. Don’t mistakenly assume that four tailpipes mean this is an X1 M. Although the camo conceals the car’s styling, it doesn’t seem to display the aggressiveness that one would expect from an M-model.
This is the X1 M35i model. It’s for people who want M Performance power and styling, but don’t need an M car. It is similar to the HTML135i or HTML235i models that BMW offers. These two models offer 302 horsepower (332 Newton-meters), and 450 poundfeet (332 Newton meters) of torque. BMW could adjust the turbo 2.0-lite to produce a little more to compensate for the X1’s additional mass. This would place it directly in competition with the Mercedes-AMG GLA35. It is unclear
The next-generation X1 will be available with a range of powertrains, including an electric fully-electric iX1 variant. It won’t be readily available. It is expected that the next-generation X1 will go on sale in 2022’s second half. This means we should expect it to break cover next year. BMW is yet to announce when the electric version of the X1 will be available, but rumors suggest that it may arrive as early as 2023. However, this could change.
