Spyker runs out of money and files for bankruptcy. But this isn't the end

The Dutch manufacturer of sports cars isn’t going away.

It’s 2021, and Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker will launch two vehicles to mark its long absence from the spotlight. These include the D8 Peking to-Paris SUV and B6 Venator supercar that was first displayed as a concept in 2013.

However, these two cars won’t materialize. According to the Dutch publication RTL News, Spyker’s cash situation has forced Victor Muller, an entrepreneur and Spyker CEO to file for bankruptcy.

This is despite a report from August 2020 that Spyker received an investment from two Russian businessmen. These were Boris Rotenberg, the owner of SMP Racing, and Michail Pessis, his business partner. Muller claims that the money from these investors did not come and that the deal was never completed. The details of the deal’s failure were not disclosed.

Willem Jan van Andel, Spyker Events, and Dennis Steffens, Spyker Services filed for bankruptcy earlier due to insufficient funding. The company is in a lot debt, and Spyker NV’s recent bankruptcy is the last nail in the coffin. But Muller is determined to keep his hopes alive for the Spyker brand.

What Could have Been:

RTL news says Muller views Spyker NV as an ’empty shell’, which is a way to say that it’s not the end of the car brand.

“This is not something I will let get in the way of my plans. The likelihood of Spyker being invested is high, I believe. “It ain’t over until the fat lady sings,” stated Muller, an optimistic interviewee with the publication.

The future of the Dutch carmaker is unknown. Although we thought we would finally see the supercar concepts, all that is left are our hopes and dreams.
