SSC Tuatara demonstrates its intense acceleration in a new video

This is a short, but very informative video that shows the twin-turbo V8 in action.

SSC took nearly a decade for the Tuatara concept into reality, but the first customer car arrived earlier this year. After a long wait, the hypercar was finally delivered to customers. The company released a new video featuring the speedy beast on an unpaved stretch of road in Eastern Washington, using the motto “Life begins at 300”. The company appears to have closed down a section on that road in order to film the clip with the Tuatara at full throttle.
We get to see the hypercar and hear the powerful soundtrack produced by the twin-turbo V8 with flat-plane crank. The hypercar is connected to a seven speed paddle-shift transmission, which changes gears in less than 100 milliseconds and sends 1,350 horsepower to your road. The 5.9-liter engine produces that power on 91 octane. But, if you add E85, it will produce a staggering 1,750 horsepower.

SSC does not reveal the speed of the car in the video. However, the company previously stated that it would reach 300 mph. We will have to wait and watch to see if the Tuatara can achieve the speed that would place it in the same league as the Bugatti Super Sport 300+ with its 304.773 mph (4990.484 km/h).

Hennessey wants to be part of the action too with his Venom F5, while Koenigsegg recently stated that its Jesko Absolut could do 330 mph (532 km/h). Bugatti claims it is finished chasing speed records. If that happens, Molsheim will not develop a hardcore Chiron in order to regain the title.

SSC North America will produce 100 hypercars at Richland’s plant in Washington. The mid-engined Tuatara receives a carbon fiber body with monocoque and carbon fiber frame to help keep its dry weight to a remarkable 2,750 pounds (1.247 kg). Its impressive numbers and futuristic styling comes at a price. The car’s starting price is more than $1.6M, rising to $1.9M for the fully loaded version.
