SSC Tuatara Drag Races Bugatti Veryon In Epic Hypercar Showdown

If the underdog has 1,000 horsepower, it’s bound to be great.

The drag racing video takes 13 minutes and 51 second. This is not a criticism of long, drawn out videos. However, this TheStradman clip gives us a close-up look at the mental SSC Tuatara. It is because the video features a drag race down a runway of 6,300 feet. However, the clip takes up very little time.

Although the SSC Tuatara was a long wait, all signs point to its success. production cars are finally coming after nearly a decade. The Tuatara here is actually the number one car. The details of setting up the runway-blitzing race were simple. TheStradman wanted to race with his Bugatti V8_. Some calls were made and Jerod Shelby, SSC boss, arrived at Eastern Oregon Regional Airport. It offered its tarmac. It was probably a lot more complicated than we thought, but you get the point.

Let’s first address the baby elephant. It seems unfair to compare a hypercar with a 15-year-old model, especially since the hypercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.9 liter V8 that produces 1,750 horsepower. We’re still talking about the Veyron and, despite its age, it is still one of the most powerful production cars ever built. This is because it’ll be mentioned in the comments almost every time, which is fine. We would love to see the Tuatara face the Koenigsegg Jesko or Bugatti’s current land-missile the Chiron Super Sport300+. Consider this an appetizer.

The video actually has its own appetizer, a Veyron versus Camry battle. It’s a Toyota Camry and it’s 100% stock. It’s not just for comic effect, but it also reminds us how fast the Veyron is. This is a good setup for the main event. As you may have guessed, the Bugatti is whipped at the Tuatara.

There’s no reason to believe that the Veyron won’t lose. SSC has a horsepower advantage that is roughly equal to the McLaren765LT. Its aero-sharp body cuts through wind resistance almost like a surgical scalpel and it sounds great doing it.

We have seen the car before and were able to hear it running in action. In fact, we reported that the car can go from 60 mph down to 120 mph in 2.5 seconds. It is however the first time that we see the car at its full speed. The video claims the car can reach 240 mph in less than half a mile. Yes, it is half mile.

Although it is not official, it surpasses the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which still holds the official speed record for production cars at 277.9 mph. The SSC Tuatara could also be able to nab the record for 0-400-0 km/h (0-249 mph), provided that its two-wheel drive layout can get traction. It could even be a legitimate contender for Bugatti’s unofficial speed record at 304 mph.
