Kia also included an interesting effect when you listen to the ad reverse.
Although Kia had teased its Super Bowl commercial, the Stinger Kia advertisement certainly did not go as we expected. Emerson Fittipaldi, a former Formula One champion, is the only motorsport celebrity featured in the spot. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is the real star. He uses the Stinger to transport him back to the 1970s, while “Dream On,” wails in the background.
Tyler climbs into the Stinger GT, and presses the Start button to bring the biturbo-3.3-liter V6 to its full potential. To go back in time, you must put the sedan into reverse and drive backwards on an abandoned track. Tyler is met by a group of people as he stops on the abandoned track.
The Stinger is priced at $32,800, after $900 destination charges. However, the base model includes a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower (190kW) and comes with a base model. Tyler’s 3.3-liter biturbo engine V6 produces 365 horsepower (272 kW). It is possible to upgrade to the GT trim for $39,250. The GT2 is the most expensive trim and costs $52,300. It comes standard with Nappa leather, a head-up display and other features. All trims of the Stinger come standard with rear-wheel drive.
Like most time travel stories Tyler must eventually return to the present. Kia ensures that the ad also works backwards. You can see the commercial reversed in the video below and notice an interesting detail in the soundtrack. This is a nice touch that you wouldn’t notice if the company didn’t release an alternative kit.
