Sedan-based limousines are a dying breed.
Livery companies that transport prom-goers and other drunkards, such as wedding guests, will need to change their ways. There are many companies that can convert anything into a limousine, but Cadillac has its own product – the XT5 limousine. It’s likely that the model is still in its early stages of development, and it will be several years before it sees production.
The photos show that Cadillac engineers increased the wheelbase. Cadillac’s exact plans for the creation are not known, but the middle doors could be a placeholder for eventual sheetmetal to connect the front and back. Cadillac may have other plans, but a six-door design would seem a little odd. Cadillac will equip it with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This is evident from the badge on the rear. It produces 237 horsepower (174 Kilowatts) as well as 258 pound-feet (353 Newton-meters of torque), so those who want a larger V6 might have to look elsewhere.
According to Cadillac Society, the strange test vehicle arrived after Cadillac added a new package for its 2020 XT5 – a Livery Package with option code ZR3. ZR3-equipped XT5s come with the larger, but optionally available, 3.6-liter V6 engine. It produces 310 hp (228 kW), 271 lbft (367 Nm), torque, a black on-black color scheme, and more. It will be interesting to see whether the package becomes a fully-fledged variant.
Cadillac will be competing with a variety of limousine converters. We’ve already seen the Toyota Range Rover limo, and the Mercedes-AMG G63 limo. And How could we forget the Learjet , an airplane-turned-limo? The Cadillac XT5 limo won’t arrive in our lives anytime soon. We don’t think it will be available until 2023. And even then, it is not something that normal consumers would buy.
