Strange Short-Wheelbase F150 Raptor Found, Could Be Bronco Test Mule

Strange Short-Wheelbase F150 Raptor Found, Could Be Bronco Test Mule
Ford may be considering a Raptor version for the upcoming Bronco.

The Ford Bronco will be available in two-door and four door trims. It has been seen by select Forddealers. We also have glimpses of it under a tarp . Although we have seen some unusually-sized F150 test mules, this is the first time that we’ve ever seen anything this size. It is quite frankly, a little bit of a mystery. This is another Bronco mule or Ford may have something more going on with the F150 Raptor.

This test vehicle is surprisingly impressive, which is why we asked this question. The front and rear fascias may be missing but you can plug them back in to create a Raptor with a single-cab and short-bed. Ford’s high speed off-roader, which has a 5.5-foot bed, can only be ordered as a SuperCab truck or SuperCrew truck. You can’t order this vehicle. Any F-150 with one cab and a very short bed. This truck should not be seen in standard trim.

The missing fascias provide a good look at the underpinnings and make it even more mysterious. Although we can’t see any details, it appears that this truck has the Raptor’s suspension. This truck certainly has the right ride height and bodywork. Which raises another question. Ford may have plans to make a Raptorized Bronco out of this vehicle, even if it isn’t being used as a test mule. It certainly looks right for the upcoming SUV.

If we had to guess, which we certainly do, we would say that this is a Bronco test car. It could be used to explore Raptor upgrades for the shorter two-door wheelbase. It would be clever to bolt up an F-150 bed and cab, rather than camo-wrapping the Bronco body. This could also be an engineering project that will allow you to test out crazy ideas that may never see the light.

It caught our attention regardless of its intended purpose. We’ll have to wait to see if such a setup makes it to the Bronco, since the long-awaited SUV will not be revealed until next year.
