Subaru intends to only sell EVs in the middle of 2030s.
Subaru has unveiled a fully-electric crossover concept. It matches the sketches that were shown earlier in the week. As it revealed its future roadmap, the Japanese automaker presented the sleek, Tesla-like concept to select journalists. Subaru and other companies are working towards a battery-electric vehicle.
The concept is only a preview of the future. Old reports indicate that Subaru will launch an electric crossover in 2021. The front of the vehicle is upright and does not have a grille. However, the styling reflects the current brand design language. The body’s bottom is accented with a shiny black strip that extends over the wheel wells. The windshield’s base is located close to the front of the crossover, creating an enormous greenhouse. Although there are no images of it, it is likely to be similar to the design of the EV Crossover in the drawings from earlier this week.
This concept electric crossover could be an example of the new platform that the automaker is developing with it Toyota . The two announced last year that they would collaborate on the development of a new 86/BRZ.
Agreement to develop electric vehicles The new architecture will be built by combining Toyota’s electrification technology and Subaru’s all wheel-drive expertise. This deal extends beyond EVs and includes collaboration on autonomous or connected cars. Subaru currently has a few electrified models available for sale worldwide. It will take years to build a fully-electrified lineup. One that starts with a powerful hybrid that borrows from Toyota’s technologies is the first step. Although Subaru’s goal of 40 percent isn’t as ambitious than other automakers’, the company plans to sell only electric cars by 2035. Although Subaru might start its electrification journey at a slow pace, it seems it will end in a sprint.
