Whoops.
Subaru teased a new Wilderness model for almost a month. We are left guessing which model it is. Subaru’s Canadian website, which has since been taken down, reveals that the next Wilderness model is a Forester. Subaru teasers suggested this was the next Wilderness model. However, it’s prematurely revealed.
The Forester Wilderness has a number of upgrades that make it even more capable than the standard Forester. Although it isn’t an off-roader, there are some significant upgrades that will please enthusiasts. Subaru enhanced the look by adding body cladding and 17-inch black-painted wheels with all-terrain tires. The suspension tune also raised the ride height. Subaru increased the roof rails’ load capacity to be able handle more gear off-road.
Upgraded mechanicals are included with the upgraded look. Forester Wilderness gets a new CVT that has a lower gear ratio to provide better low-range power. Subaru also modified the rear differential gear ratio and transfer case. The gearbox is not compatible with Subaru’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 182 horsepower (135 Kilowatts) as well as 176 pound-feet (239 Newton meters) of torque. Subaru provides extra protection for oily bits with underbody skid plates.
Subaru will keep interior upgrades to a minimum. However, customers will receive embossed “Wilderness” front seats. The interior will include ultra-resilient, soft-touch upholders, all rubber floor mats, and an 8-inch infotainment screen. Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes safety features. We don’t know when the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness will be available for sale, but we anticipate it to be before the year ends. These details will likely be revealed by Subaru officials when the Forester Wilderness Variant is unveiled on September 2.
