Subaru is ranked No. 1 in 2022 by Consumer Reports, Jeep last

Top ten brands include Japanese and German brands.

Consumer Reports compiles a variety of metrics and statistics each year to create a list of the top and worst automobile brands. The mix includes road-test scores and owner satisfaction. Safety, reliability, and all this goes into a blender to create an overall number. For 2022, Subaru is the highest brand. Subaru is the only automaker that has surpassed 80. It landed at 81 to take the top spot. It retook the title of last year’s winner Mazda. Subie, the Japanese competitor, fell to second with a score 78. Honda was in fourth place, and Lexus was fifth. Both brands received a score of 77.

More Japanese and German love rounds out the top ten, with Audi, Porsche and Mini, Toyota and Infiniti all making it in. Mini rose nine places compared to last year and finished with 74. Buick fell two places to the bottom ten with a score 72. It is the most highly-rated American brand in this study. Tesla was ranked 60th out of all American brands. The EV company fell seven places from last year. Consumer Reports identified the yoke steering wheels as a problem in its road testing and ranked it as the worst of the worst with a score of 60. With Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet earning 60 each, Jaguar, Lincoln, and Alfa Romeo managed to maintain 50 or more. Land Rover, Mitsubishi are tied at 49 points with GMC close behind at 48. Jeep is the worst, scoring 45. Consumer Reports pointed out reliability issues and poor road-test performance as the main concerns for Jeep.
