The electric STI is coming soon, and this concept will be a preview.
Subaru will take the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon by surprise next month, unveiling a number of sporty concepts. The STI E-RA, which stands for “for the carbon-neutral era”, will be the most prominent. It will go without an internal combustion engine and use an entirely electric powertrain. The launch of an internal project to create a high-performance electric vehicle (EV) will be signalled by the showcar. This should eventually become a reality.
TAS will launch on January 14, but we’ll have to wait. Subaru released a teaser photo that focuses the spotlight on the front fascia of the concept car. The STI E-RA is dressed in red and appears significantly different from the new WRX. This is not only because it doesn’t have a traditional grille or hood scoop. To emphasize the sporty nature and C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, the headlights have a pair of gills on the hood. The STI logo is also illuminated in red.
We can speculate that the concept would have an electric motor at its front and another at its rear. This would allow for an all-wheel drive setup to match conventionally-powered Subaru models. The DRLs that look like a “C”, suggest it is based on the 2022 BRZ, rather than the WRX. But time will tell. Maybe an STI-spec Solterra
TAS will also feature the WRX STI performance concept. It is based on the JDM spec WRX S4 STI Sport R. Subaru Tecnica International adds a number of upgrades to the vehicle, including a huge rear wing and a subtle aero kit in red to match the side reflect caps and the STI badge at the front grille. The concept could be used as a preview of the larger WRX STI.
Both concepts will be sharing the spotlight at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe convention centre with a Levorg ST performance concept. The WRX STI performance concept will feature red bits on the sporty wagon that has just been spawned in Australia . Subaru will also install an upgraded exhaust system and make other tweaks to improve the practicality of the vehicle.
Subaru will also be present at TAS with a BRZ STI performance and various sporty upgrades.
