Subaru today held the world premiere of its VIZIV future concept in Tokyo. The crossover shared the spotlight with the Impreza 5-Door and the WRT STI S207.
After the VIZIV, VIZIV 2 concepts released in 2013, and 2014 respectively, this is the third VIZIV Future concept (Vision for Innovation). We noticed that each of the three concepts represents a step closer to a production model, taking into consideration Subaru’s claim that the VIZIV Series is a “SUV-type model model that embodies the future vision for car development.”
This third version of the concept uses the company’s automated driving technology, which is part an evolving EyeSight system. It has automatic driving capabilities on expressways and an automatic parking function.
The new Subaru Global Platform is the platform for the VIZIV Future concept. It uses a hybrid setup that includes a smaller turbocharged boxer engine as well as an electric motor which sends power to the upgraded symmetrical four-wheel drive arrangement. It now has a single motor mounted on the rear axle instead of the traditional propeller shaft. This allows for a more spacious and comfortable cabin.
Subaru doesn’t know when the VIZIV Future Concept will become a production model, but it may happen next year or 2017.
