It will be on display at the Tokyo Auto Salon in full this week.
The Subaru Viziv Performance concept first appeared at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017. Now it is ready to race for the forthcoming TAS event. The Viziv Performance STI Concept was unveiled on Friday. It is expected to be a preview of the next-generation WRX STI that will arrive in the future.
In fact, Subaru’s Designer Chief MamoruIshii already hinted that the Viziv Performance Concept provides a glimpse of what is to come with a new sedan bearing the three letters WRX. This could only mean that the STI-branded showcar shown here will eventually be able to compete on the road with the WRX STI.
The new concept will feature a large rear wings and red accents to highlight its sporty side, as we can see. Numerous STI logos were added to the body, including the front bumper. The winglets that protrude from the sides of the large wing at the rear are interesting. These are likely to increase airflow and aero.
The identity of the engine under the bulging hood remains a mystery. However, the new Subaru Global Platform-based production model will likely include a hybrid powertrain when it arrives at the end of this decade. David Dello Stritto is Subaru’s European sales and marketing manager. He clearly stated that the 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine does not have a future. Rumours suggest that a smaller turbo 2.0-liter boxer engine will drive the front wheels, and work with an electric motor to power the rear axle. This will allow for an AWD arrangement.
Let’s hope Subaru can shed some light on the oily (or electric?) side of Subaru. This weekend, bits from the Tokyo Auto Salon. Below are images of the non STI concept.
