Subaru WRX STI STI S209 arrives with 341 HP, and only 200 coming to the U.S.

STI also replaces the suspension and adds Dunlop tires.

Subaru launches the first S-Series vehicle in America with the Launch of the STI S209 At the Detroit Auto Show. This hardcore model is powered by a tuned Subie EJ25 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. It has an estimated 341 horsepower. This is a great option for those who want to have a car that can be driven in the garage. The company will only bring “around 200” units into the United States.
Technically, the Subaru S209 model is not a Subaru model. The model is not technically a Subaru, but the company homologates it in the United States as an STI.

STI overhauls the engine extensively to increase the engine’s output. The standard engine is replaced by an HKS turbo. The upgraded unit has a larger compressor and turbine. This setup allows for a maximum boost of 18psi, instead of the usual 16.2psi. The powerplant has forged pistons, connecting rods, and a lower rotating mass. The intake system features a revised ducting and a control on he steering wheel that activates the intercooler spray. The tuned engine requires more gasoline, so the fuel pump is high-flow and larger injectors are used. The headers are hand-polished to shine. A new exhaust is lighter and has 17 percent less resistance. It weighs only 4.1 pounds.

A six-speed manual is the only available gearbox that takes you to Subie’s all-wheel drive system. STI calibrates the driving modes to reflect any changes in the drivetrain.

Through a completely redesigned body kit, the S209 shows its greater power from the outside. The body is widened by wider fenders, which increase the width of the body by 1.7 inches (43.2 mm) over a standard WRX STI. The additional width allows STI to increase the front and back tracks by 0.6 inches (15.2 mm). The performance division covers the 19-inch BBS forged wheels and a set 265/35 Dunlop GT600A, summer-only tires. This rubber was specifically designed by Dunlop for the S209 to provide more than 1.0 g of lateral grip.

STI also takes serious consideration of the suspension on the S209. The S209 rides on Bilstein dampers with stiffer springs, and a 20mm rear stabilizer bars. The body is strengthened by a flexible front strut tower and rear draw stiffeners.

The S209 comes with a set Brembo brakes that include cross-drilled disc rotors and 6-piston front calipers. Two-piston rear are also available. High-friction pads can be added to the brakes.
