It is called the Diamond Edition and you will probably never be able to see it in person.
2018 marks the 30 th year anniversary of Subaru’s motorsports division Subaru Tecnica International, better known as STI. The automaker has created the special 2019 WRX STI edition to mark the occasion. The factory has made this the most powerful ever built, with many upgrades. However, there’s a catch. There are actually two catch: only 30 examples of the vehicle will be made, and they will all be sold to the South African market.
This car is unique because it was created by the South African branch of the automaker. We like what we see. A remapped ECU, and a performance exhaust upgrade give the Diamond Edition STI a power boost of 349 horsepower (260 kilowatts). Subaru SA claims it is enough to cut nearly a second off the standard STI’s 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) time. The Diamond Edition takes only five seconds. The top speed remains the same at 255 km/h (158 miles).
The car is more than an under-hood upgrade. Subaru SA engineers widened the wheels by 20 millimeters. Although the suspension has not been lowered, the Diamond Edition is outfitted with a body kit that features high-visibility yellow trim. The car also receives a new STI engine brace and special 30 Diamond Edition badge on the outside. The special STI interior features unique dashboard inlays for both the passenger and driver sides, along with a numbered panel on its driver side.
Only 30 cars have been slated for production, and they are all exclusive to South Africa. The order process is open and the cars are expected to be in dealerships by January. However, the STIs are not cheap. The price is R799 000 which is equivalent to about $56,000 in U.S currency.
