Let’s find out what the future holds for the lifted wagon.
Subaru recalled the Outback’s existence earlier this month with a lifted prototype that was tested on public roads. Our photographers were able to capture it. Although the photos show what appears to be a new, more off-road-focused trim for the wagon, there was also something that nearly flew under our radar. Actually, the front end of the test car had been revised.
The front fascia featured a sleeker headlight design and a more prominent radiator grille. The bumper’s lower section was modified more and Kolesa.ru merged all the elements into these renderings. We are impressed by the preview of the Outback facelift.
The spy photos clearly showed the changes to the front, but the rear ended remained largely unchanged. The rear bumper is covered in camouflage, which suggests that there may be some revisions. Our Russian friends have provided a rendering that suggests a new bumper design and a revised diffuser.
The Outback’s 2022 model year should be revealed later in the year, with sales starting towards the end 2021. Facelifted models will include the Wilderness Edition model, which features suspension upgrades and other customization options. The under-hood changes are not expected to make any significant impact. However, the rugged wagon will remain available with the choice of a 2.5-liter turbo or a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine.
This is a preliminary report, as we don’t have any official information from the Japanese automaker. Stay tuned as we expect to see more Outback prototypes over the next few weeks.
