It broke with Bugatti traditions.
For the better part a decade, the idea of a second Bugatti model has been brewing. The company teased the 16C Galibier four-door model in 2009. However, it quickly fell into a period of developmental hell. The cause of its demise is well documented. Another Bugatti model, the front-mid-engine Bugatti Atlas, has not been widely reported. Supercarblondie has released a new video that shows the secret model up close, showcasing its striking design, stunning interior, and unique powertrain configuration.
The powertrain may have defied tradition, but the design of the Atlantic is 100 percent Bugatti. It is a tribute to Type 57 – the centerline runs down the modern-day Atlantic. This is the same as the Type 57 which had such a line that riveted body panels together. The Atlantic’s most distinctive feature is its trick rear hatch and butterfly doors.
The interior of the Atlantic is very similar to the Chiron’s, with the same steering wheel and instrument cluster. The instrument panel/center console is a striking distinction, as it is slim and has a flow-through design.
Although the Atlantic appears ready for production in the video, Bugatti did not get the go-ahead. Bugatti was working on the Atlantic when VW’s Dieselgate scandal broke. This put many projects on hold. Unfortunately, this included the Atlantic.
