Superformance Ford GT40 is A Beautiful Classic With Modern Power

Superformance is most well-known for its 1960s-era continuation sport cars, the Shelby Daytona Coupe. The GT40 is a new Ford product that the California shop has made a name for. The achingly gorgeous, fully restored “Future GT Forty”, made its debut at SEMA. It also has some performance goodies underneath.

A modern Ford GT ecoBoost engine provides power. This application uses a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V6 to produce 647 horsepower (483 megawatts). V’s Performance installed the upgraded engine with two Honeywell Garrett turbochargers, and a Magnaflow exhaust. The engine sits on Ridetech Shockwave air suspension with custom HRE wheels, giving it an intimidating look.

This modified GT40 takes a lot of cues form the modern racer, but technically it pays homage the GT40’s first place victory at the 1968 24 Hours of LeMans. APR Performance body kit features the same “EcoBoost”, red, white and blue livery as Ford’s modern race cars. Aero upgrades include carbon fiber front canards, and a massive rear wing.

Superformance calls its GT40 the “highest-quality, continuation option on market.” It’s not hard to believe. It is the only GT40 licensed with original GT40-P-Series number numbers. The near-original steel monocoque chassis allows for interchangeability of more than two-thirds with the original GT40.

Doug Campbell, who is the owner of the car, said that the “Future GT Forty” reaction was mind-blowing. “I got the idea for this car while watching the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fast forward a year and half and it’s being presented at the SEMA Show.”

The Future GT Forty will be on display at SEMA. However, interested buyers can still order the car through Superformance directly. Although the company does not disclose how much it will cost, it is likely that this GT40, which was built by Superformance, will be expensive.
