Here is the place where V8 magic happens.
Affalterbach, a municipality located in Baden-Wurttemberg’s Ludwigsburg district, is in Southern Germany near Stuttgart. It has a population of only 4,501, making it a peaceful place with one notable fact. It is the home of the engines that produce the most powerful Mercedes-Benz badge cars, the ones made from the Aufrecht, Melcher, and Grossaspach subsidiary.
It’s not easy to visit Affalterbach, even for the most dedicated AMG fans. A 2-way ticket to Stuttgart can cost thousands. We decided to make a video showing a complete tour of AMG’s factory. We will be your friends for life.
This clip was made by YouTube star Shmee150, who is still waiting for delivery of his new car the Shmeemobile. It will be an AMG G63. The factory in Affalterbach houses its twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 motor.
The description of the video states that “visiting the place where the heartbeat of the car was built is always special and we can follow its assembly including focusing upon the pistons or turbos, which are two very interesting stages along the route.”
Shmee150 (Tim), is joined by Lars Laukenmann who shows some of the assembly processes for the V8 engine. You’ll be amazed at how many AMG engines there are.
The German company offers plant tours to its customers. These allow them to see the AMG Performance studio, customer center, and engine shop. This link will provide more information.
