Tesla announced that the first Model S vehicles would be delivered in 2012, almost two years after its unveiling.

Two years ago, the Model S was revealed. Tesla announced that the first vehicles would be delivered in 2012 (late 2012 in Europe).

Limited edition Signature Series cars will be available. They will come with special badges and a wide range of options. The 42 kWh lithium-ion batteries that power the Model S will drive them to a speed of 60 mph in 5.6 seconds. They can also travel up to 300 miles on one charge.

Although pricing information is still being finalized, the Model S 300M (300-mile range) will cost approximately $77,000. The standard Model S 300M (300 mile range) will cost approximately $77,400. There will be a 160M (258km) and 230M (307km) variants that will cost approximately $67,400 and $57,000. All variants are eligible for a $7500 U.S. government tax credit.

If all goes according to plan Tesla will produce 5,000 Model S’s in 2012. The company plans to produce 20,000 units a year later.
