The Model S can reach 60 mph in under two seconds even without the “+” at its end.
Tesla revealed the Model S Refresh at January’s end and promised electric hypercar acceleration for the Plaid+ version. Although deliveries of the Range-topping Model S have not yet begun, the most popular electric sedan flavor has been discontinued. Elon Musk went to Tweet to announce that the Plaid+ was no longer being offered. He stated that the Plaid (without “+”)) will be equally good.
The $119,990 Plaid will deliver the same performance as the $149990 Plaid+, according to reports. The Tesla head honcho stated that the Model S, which is faster than the $149,990 Plaid+, will reach 60 mph (96 km/h), from a standstill in under two seconds. This makes it the fastest production car of any type. Musk’s claim is not supported by all, considering that the Rimac Nevera finishes the task in 1.85 seconds. The Plaid may be even faster.
It’s not apples and oranges, as the Rimac is an entirely fledged hypercar, while the Tesla is still a premium four-door sedan. However, Musk explicitly states “of any type” so it’s not unfair to compare the two, even though the Nevera is limited in production to 150 units, and the Plaid is a regular production vehicle.
Jay Leno, a podcast host, revealed that the Model S Plaid ran a quarter-mile at 152.09 mph at Autoclub Famoso Raceway, Bakersfield, California. The Tesla website claims that the sedan can run a quarter-mile at 155 mph in 9.23 seconds. Three electric motors producing 1,020 horsepower each, also show a Model S dedicated page. This model can reach speeds of 200 mph and 0-60 mph in just 1.99 seconds.
The Model S Plaid may be just as fast as the Plaid+, but it has a limited range. The old version promised 520 miles (837 km) between charges, while the non-plus can go 350 miles (563 km) with enough juice. You can unlock an additional 25 miles (40 km) by purchasing the base, 375-mile Long Range model for $79,990. This model still offers decent performance (0-60 in 3.1 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph).
Tesla will be hosting a Model S Plaid delivery event at its Fremont factory in California on Thursday, June 10. This will provide more details about the performance of the sedan. The sedan will not be faster than the Nevera but it is a remarkable feat for a family car that costs $150K.
