They won’t all love the EV.
The Tesla Model S Plaid is not afraid to take a beating at the drag strip. One outing that was captured on camera shows the electric sedan just that. This video is from Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel and shows that the four-door sedan has plenty of electrons and can crush gas-powered rivals.
The Model S Plaid stands up against worthy rivals, too. The McLaren 720S has demonstrated its worth on the drag strip, achieving blistering quarter-mile times.
This supercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 710 horsepower (529 Kilowatts) as well as 568 pound-feet (771 Newton meters) of torque. The supercar can travel 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.5 seconds.
The Tesla Model S Plaid has 1,020 horsepower (760 kW) and is strong enough to defeat the McLaren in drag racing. The Tesla crossed the finish line in 9.42 seconds at 145.57 mph (234.27 km/h). McLaren did the quarter-mile in 10.17 seconds, at 139.5 mph (234.27 kilometers per hour).
The Chevrolet Corvette C5 has more room than the Tesla. Although the Corvette looks stocky, it is impossible to determine its specifications. The Corvette is slower than the Tesla, finishing the quarter-mile in 12.04 seconds at an average speed of 117.16 mph (188.55 km/h). It took 9.37 seconds for the Tesla to complete it at 147.57mph (237.49 kmph).
The Tesla lost the drag race against a Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa. This vehicle soared down the track in 9.17 seconds at 152.2 mph (244.94 kph). The Tesla lost, but it also posted its fastest time of 9.34 seconds at 148.27mph (238.61 km/h).
Supercars and bikes with high-powered engines are incredibly fast, while electric vehicles such as the Tesla Model S Plaid show the power of electricity. While the McLaren and Corvette are both slow, they are still faster than the Model S. That’s what is most important in drag racing.
