The Plaid has some amazing times.
The world of performance EVs changes rapidly. Even the best-known models from a few months back can seem slow. Watch this video to see how a Tesla Model S plaid defeats a Porsche Taycan Turbo S in three drag races.
The Model S Plaid is capable of delivering 1,020 horsepower (761 Kilowatts) to the track. Three electric motors provide the power – one at the front and two at back.
The Taycan Turbo S, on the other hand, has 750 horsepower (560 kW) at launch. The front motor is powered by two electric motors and the rear one has a 2-speed gearbox.
The difference is evident from the very first race. Although the Tesla driver forgot to activate Drag Strip Mode, the Plaid still covered the quarter-mile in an absurd 9.673 seconds and traveled 150.93 miles per hours (242.9 km per hour). The Taycan Turbo S takes 10.422 seconds. Although this is an impressive time, the Porsche cannot keep up with Tesla.
The Model S Plaid can cover the same distance faster when the Tesla is in the correct mode. The Model S Plaid covers the quarter-mile in 9.36 seconds. With a time of 10.393 seconds, the Taycan Turbo S is more than a second behind.
The Model S Plaid is again faster for the final race. The Tesla completes the quarter-mile in 9.344 seconds, at 151.34 MPH (243.6 Kph). Although the Taycan Turbo S does its best, it is 10.379 slower. The Porsche is going 129.99 mph (or 209.2 km/h) across the line.
It is not known if Porsche plans to make a faster version of the Taycan or if they will be able to compete with the Model S Plaid. Rumours have it that the company will create a GTS version for track use with a lighter weight and body modifications to increase downforce. It’s not known if a power bump will be included in the upgrades.
