It’s a photo finishing.
Although it may seem absurd to compare the Tesla ModelY Performance with the Chevy C8, the automotive industry is wild right now. The automakers are striving to make the electric car better while still improving the combustion engine. This is creating some strange paradoxes. The TLFCar crew has released a new video that pits two different models against each other in a drag race. It’s very close.
Although Tesla does not advertise the output of its vehicles, TFLCar states that Model Y Performance produces around 450 horsepower (335 kilowatts), and just under 500 pound feet (667 Newton-meters). This is similar to the Corvette’s 495 horsepower (369 kW) or 470 lbft (637 Nm), respectively. There are some differences. The Model Y weighs in at 4,400 lbs (1.995 kg), while the Chevy is around 3,600 lbs (1.632 kg). The Corvette has rear-wheel drive, whereas the Tesla’s all wheel-drive system is front-wheel.
Both cars launch almost identically from the starting line. The race is surprisingly close until the end. Although the Corvette has a slight advantage at the start, shifting through the eight speed automatic allowed Tesla to close the gap between them before taking a small lead. The Model Y beats the Corvette only by a bumper. Although the track’s high altitude may have caused Corvette to suffer, we wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t.
You can see the performance drop in the numbers. TFL measured the Corvette’s speed at 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.17 seconds, while the Tesla Model Y was able to achieve a time of 3.93 seconds. TFL raced both cars around its home track. The Corvette almost broke the one-minute mark but the Model Y was close behind at 1:02.84.
