A 1964 Ford GT40 prototype was sold at an auction by Mecum in Houston, Texas for $7 (EUR5/PS4.1) million.Shelby American prepared only two models for 1965’s season. The GT/104 prototype was raced by Jo Schlesser, Richard “Dickie”, Atwood at Le Mans. However, it caught fire and was forced out of competition. Unfortunately, the car was not particularly successful at the track.
Despite its poor record, this model is still an important part the GT40 legacy. It was restored by Paul Lanzante, a GT40 specialist. Another highlight of the auction was a 1967 Corvette Coupe with only 2,996 miles that sold for $725,000 (EUR525,020 /PS433,535). A 1934 Cadillac Fleetwood V12 All-Weather Phaeton that sold for $165,000 (EUR119 490 /PS98,685).
