The second batch of images was sent by our spy photographers with the Volkswagen Golf R420 testing close to the Nurburgring. Volkswagen is preparing to make the Golf R a more powerful hatchback. They will introduce a production version of the R400 , which is expected have 420 PS and a 4MOTION all wheel drive system. It is unclear what the engine’s identity is at the moment. Some say it’s the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter, while others have heard the prototype stretch out and claim it’s the 5-cylinder 2.5-liter from Audi RS3 Sportback.
The Golf R420 (name unknown) will have a stronger engine and unique alloy wheels. It also has a quad exhaust setup, sportier suspension, and a quad exhaust setup. To match the extra power, there will be a roof-mounted canopy and an aggressive body.
The chances are that Volkswagen will make the Golf R420’s world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016. Sales of the model are expected to begin shortly thereafter, at an estimated cost of less than EUR50,000. We’ll have to wait and see if this is a regular production model, or a limited edition.
