Hyundai South Korea has acquired the Avante Sport, which will be brought to the U.S.A as the 2017 Elantra Sport.
Two months ago, Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski stated that the 2017 Elantra Sport would be introduced at SEMA. The car will be available for viewing at home in South Korea, which has already made it public on the company’s website. The “Avante Sport” is the name of the car in K.D.M. It will most likely look almost identical to the U.S. model.
While the regular model is attractive enough, this version is more striking due to its more aggressive body. The front bumper is beefier and features a larger air intake, horizontal LED daytime running lights, and a vertical (instead of vertical), LED headlight. We also noticed that the grille now has a red “Sport” badge. Also, we notice red accents in the headlight graphics.
Side profile shows more prominent skirts. 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/40R18 tires are also visible. A redesigned bumper houses a faux diffuser as well as a pair chrome exhaust tips. The different LED signature makes the taillights look sharper.
The Avante/Elantra Sport 2017 Avante/Elantra Sport has a multi-link rear suspension which makes it more enjoyable to drive. The engine’s heart and soul is the turbocharged, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 204 PS in Avante Sport. Elantra U.S.Spec will have approximately 200-202 horsepower (almost150 kilowatts). The Korean version of the Elantra has 27 kg-m. This means that in pounds-feet, it would be 195 Lb-ft (265 Nm).
Hyundai will offer the car with both a six-speed manual gearbox (at least at home), and a seven-speed dual-clutch auto (7-speed) to please all. Although it won’t break any Nurburgring records the Elantra/Avante Sport can reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in eight seconds.
The Elantra/Avante, which is the top-of-the-line model, will feature a bolder exterior and stronger hardware. It also has a more exciting interior, with faux carbon fiber accents and sporty seats, red accents and a flat-bottomed steering column. The car will also be offered in the domestic market with an “Extreme Package”, which includes different 18-inch wheels, a spoiler at the rear, and some performance parts.
Expect an online unveiling in October, if not sooner, since the American version will be displayed at SEMA in November.
