The new model is larger than the predecessor and has been reimagined as an SUV.
In the past few years, SUVs and crossovers have seen a surge in sales to the exclusion of MPVs. The second-gen (3008) introduced earlier in the year changed from a multi-purpose vehicle into an authentic crossover. The 5008, a former MPV, is now a larger crossover.
There are many similarities between the new 3008 model and the 5008 model. It is so obvious that it would be difficult to tell which one is which without the third-side windows and size differences. The photo below shows the similarities between the new high-riding models of Peugeot. The new 5008 is 11cm (4.3 inches) wider than its predecessor. This allows for a larger cabin with seven seats.
The interior is spacious with the second row passengers seated on three separate folding and tilting seats. They also have an additional 60mm (2.3 inches), of knee room. The third-row seats can be folded and removed if you need to transport more cargo. Peugeot claims that the 5008’s five-seat configuration offers a 1,065-liter (36.7 cubic feet) capacity. You can carry items up to 3.2m (126 inches) by folding the front passenger seat. A hands-free electric tailgate will be an option on the flagship GT. This will allow you to carry long items up to 3.2 meters (126 inches) without having to fold the front passenger seat.
The new 5008 is similar to the 3008, and will be available in four gasoline or six diesel configurations depending on where you live. A 130-hp PureTech three-cylinder engine with 1.2-liter PureTech is available to buyers. It can also be linked to a six speed manual. There’s also a less expensive version that reduces CO2 emissions to just 115 grams/km. You can connect the same unit to a six speed auto, which is standard on 165-hp PureTech four-cylinder engines.
