Are you more drawn to the 2018 Mustang’s design or the 2015-2017 Mustang?

Today, we were able to see the updated 2018 Ford Mustang. There are many things to take in – there is no V6 engine, MagneRide dampers and new active-safety technology – but the most striking update to Mustang is its design. It’s difficult to recall when a redesign of a Mustang caused so much controversy among its fans.

We have compared the 2018 Ford Mustang with the 2015-2017 version to help answer the question “Was the facelift an upgrade or a downgrade?” Use our slider tool below to see the differences between old and new. Let us know your thoughts about the update.

Front

The 2018 Mustang looks very different from the front. The new hood now drops 0.8 inches (20 millimeters) lower than it did before. Redesigned hood vents. A larger grille opening and a slightly different front fascia are required. New housings have been added to the headlights which are now LED units. The Mustang’s front is now more aerodynamically designed and modernized than the 2015-2017 model. But does this make it look less elegant?

Rear

The 2018 Ford Mustang’s rear features a few subtler tweaks. These include new LED taillights and updated bumper and spoiler designs. The exhausts will be the most distinguishing feature between the two cars. EcoBoost models powered by the 2.3-liter turbofour engine have two tips while the GT with the 5.0-liter V8 is equipped with quad exhausts. Three new paint colors are available for 2018, including Kona Blue, Orange Fury (seen below) and Royal Crimson.

The 2018 Mustang now offers a full-digital instrument cluster as an option. It’s hard to deny the cool factor of this system. This is a significant departure from the previous version, which had twin analog gauges flanked by a digital tripcomputer. The center console was redesigned with new trim, aluminum door handles and handles, new seat upholstery designs, a Mustang badge on the dashboard, as well as a key redesign.
