The debut of the supercar could take place at next year’s Detroit Auto Show.
At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, we had high expectations of Chevrolet. Rumours circulating online suggested that the long-awaited Corvette mid-engined might finally be revealed in person, along with the unveiling of the 2019 Silverado. It didn’t happen. So the question is: When will we actually get it? According to a new report, we may have to wait for another year.
Automotive News says that the mid-engine Corvette will not be displayed at the Detroit Auto Show until at least 2019, almost exactly one year away. Although the publication relies on a few reliable sources, it also suggests that a European debut in Geneva could be possible in just a few months. However, this is unlikely. We wouldn’t be surprised if the company displayed its ZR1 in Dubai.
There have already been many leaked images that suggest the new Corvette is in production. This latest set shows a number of components . These include the front suspension, rear frame, transaxle and actual powerplant. Although the details aren’t specific to the mid-engined Vette, it’s easy to see how they could be used for other purposes.
Rumours suggest that the new Corvette will be equipped with note one but three engine options. According to IHS Markit, there are three powerplants available: a V8 of 4.2 liters, a V8 of 5.5 liters and a V8 of 6.2 liters. The last of these three powerplants could produce upwards to 850 horsepower (633kilowatts) and will most likely be fitted with two turbochargers.
All of the information mentioned in this article are speculation, based only on leaked documents or alleged insider details. The debut of the new Corvette will be the only way to find out everything. We hope it arrives sooner than 2019 though.
