Keep your eyes on the Titan.
Nissan continues to tweak its full-size pickup model. This latest example is the 2020 Titan which was unveiled by the Japanese company at the State Fair of Texas, Dallas, Texas.

The Titan is available in two cab styles: the smaller king cab and the larger crew. The Titan’s name may be glib. However, the design ethos adds cohesion and elegance to its evolutionary looks. This is due to a prominent front grille (it comes in three styles), a lower fascia and LED headlights that have attractive, double-boomerang LED running lights. This feature is standard on the higher-end Pro-4X and SL trims, as well as Platinum Reserve trims. The Titan is also available in the lower-end S and SV grades. These models do not have standard LED headlights.
No matter what trim level, Nissan says all Titans have LED taillights and tailgate finishes that are refreshed. The new lighting system uses four LED light sources to illuminate all of the bed.
The Titan’s interior features new cabin tech including an 8.0-inch screen at the center and a 9.0-inch option. Additional interior assist grips are available, as well as improvements to the door-panel storage pockets and a panoramic sunroof for crew cab models.
Ride ‘Em Cowboy
A few powertrain upgrades are included with the Titan’s new exterior and interior design. The truck’s 5.6-liter V8 standard engine produces 400 horsepower and 413 pounds-feet torque, which is 10 more horses and 19 more twist than it did before. A new nine-speed automatic transmission subs for the seven-speed unit, allowing the Titan to unleash its newfound power. The previous 2.94:1 gearset has been replaced by a shorter 3.69:1 final drive ratio.
Nissan claims that the new Titan accelerates almost one second faster than its predecessor, thanks to mechanical improvements.
A new “Off-Road gauge” is now available to complement the Titan’s four-wheel-drive system and low-range transfer box. The latter can only be found on the Pro-4X trim. This makes it much easier to drive Nissan’s full-size pickup off the beaten track. The gauge uses data from an accelerometer, rather than a gyroscope to display the truck’s pitch-and-roll angles.
Safe Space
The Titan’s updated version also features safety tech. Every model comes with eight airbags, two more than before, and Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes forward-alarm emergency braking with pedestrian detection and reverse-alarm emergency braking. It also has blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert. Lane-departure warning and automatic high beam headlights. Optional items include adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, and a traffic-sign-recognition system.
The 2020 Titan is an improvement on the previous model due to its design, powertrain and safety improvements. It will be interesting to see if the Titan’s improvements attract enough buyers so that it can compete with other models like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150.
