It is basically an electric vehicle that recharges its batteries using a combustion engine.
Although the Nissan Kicks was first introduced in 2016, it took more than a year for the compact crossover to make it to the U.S., effectively replacing the quirky JUKE. The Kicks are getting a facelift. We will be seeing the 2021 Nissan Kicks in Thailand.
The Kicks new design isn’t the only news in the automotive world right now. The Thai-market Kicks is the first to use and produce the ePower technology beyond Japan’s home market.
The Nissan Kicks e-Power System works like an EV. It uses the EM57 electric engine to drive the front wheels. It produces 127 horsepower (95 kilowatts) as well as 192 pound-feet (261 Newton-meters). A 1.57 kWh lithium battery pack provides the energy to power the motor. Instead of plugging the battery, which is the normal way to recharge it, the battery pack can be recharged using a three-cylinder, 1.2-liter combustion engine producing 79 horsepower.
The Nissan Kicks e-Power EV is self-charging and requires refueling.
It is still unknown if the U.S. will receive the 2021 Kicks ePower. It has not been reported, but the Thai-made Kicks will eventually reach the South American market. We’ll be keeping our eyes open for any further developments.
