Ferrari had previously stated that it would arrive after 2025.
Maranello is moving quickly as Ferrari pushes up the unveil date for its first fully-electric vehicle. The company had previously stated that it would not launch until after 2025. However, this is no longer true. According to Automotive News Europe John Elkann, Ferrari’s head honcho said that the company’s first EV would be launched in 2025.
Since Ferrari’s announcement in late 2019, that its first EV would be available by the middle of 2020, a lot has happened in the automotive industry. In the last few years, more and more automakers have invested heavily in electric vehicles, from Ford to Mercedes. EV performance is improving and costs are falling, but we still have years before an electric Ferrari hits the market. Ferrari was concerned about the limitations of battery technology, as well as the long charging times.
Although there are not many details regarding the first EV of the company, a patent filed in early 2020 seemed to show the company’s intention. A patent was filed by the company for a four motor, four-wheel drive mid-engine car that can support both fully electric propulsion as well as hybrid. Although it wasn’t concrete, it was a sign that Ferrari was looking to the future. The automaker also plans to use hybrids in its future. In 2019, it expects that 60 percent of its cars will be hybrids by 2022.
In 2019, Ferrari’s first hybrid, the SF90 Stradale was launched. This is the most powerful Ferrari road car. A 4.0-liter V8 was paired with three electric motors to produce 986 horsepower (96 km/h) and a zero-to-60 speed of 2.5 seconds. It also offers 15 miles of all-electric range. This is just one step in the journey of the bespoke automaker towards an electrified future. We can’t wait for Ferrari to reveal 2025. But, in the meantime, these three new Ferrari models will suffice.
