The Audi RS6 GTO is a retro-flavored super wagon with side exhaust

We weren’t expecting the GTO, but we are delighted to see the GTO.

When Gran Turismo Omologata is mentioned, the Ferrari 250 GTO comes to mind. However, it has been used by many other automakers throughout the years. A prime example is the Pontiac GTO, the Mitsubishi GTO and the HSV GTO. These letters will bring back fond memories for Audi fans of the 90 Quattro IMSA GTO

After the 2018 E-Tron Vision Gran Turismo A modern tribute to the race car that was used in the IMSA Camel GT Championship is created. It was designed by Neckarsulm’s apprentices under March Lichte, Audi’s design boss. This project is part the 40th anniversary celebrations of Quattro, which also include an insanely expensive dinner.

It also features a side exhaust that is in the same vein of the AWD race car with 700 horsepower in 1989. The interior has been updated with a new rear bench and a roll cage. The body-hugging seats at the front have a carbon fibre shell and a racing harness.

These images are more like renderings than actual cars. It is not clear if the car is actually real. Audi may be making a special to demonstrate how a super-wonderful wagon can be made even more exciting.

The 90 Quattro IMSA GTO was a short-lived race car that only ran in 1989. It used a 2.2-liter five cylinder engine with a KKK turbocharger. This generated a huge 531 pound-feet (720 Newton meters) of torque. It was equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. It reached 62 mph (100 km/h), in 3.1 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 193 mph (315 km/h).

Audi was still developing the car when 1989 IMSA season began. This meant that the car missed the first Daytona race and Sebring race. The car won seven of 13 races but it wasn’t enough for the title, as Roush Racing won the race.
