The DOHC V8 5.5-liter engine spins at 8,600 rpm
The new Corvette Z06 has been in production for seven months. It’s so close that we are almost able to taste it in person, so Corvette lovers must be bursting out of their skin at this point. We present Z06 video that will help you relax and enjoy the sounds and sights of the Z06. You could even make it worse.
The C8 has been seen from many angles, both inside and outside. We have heard it. However, Byron Glover Jr., an Instagrammer and YouTuber, had the opportunity to see the C8 Z06 from a more intimate angle during NCM Bash – an annual event at the National Corvette Museum.
A number of C8 models from Chevrolet were on hand to celebrate the occasion, including a 70th anniversary edition with special wheels and badging. The silver Z06, which is featured in the video above has captured our interest (and perhaps yours). This is where the video should begin.
The 16-minute video shows tours of other new ‘Vettes, including the 70th anniversary model as well as a Z06 convertible. The Z06 has many aerodynamic and visual upgrades over the Stingray. The most noticeable are the center-exit exhaust and side intakes. You can also get a Z06-specific front fascia. Depending on your options package, rear spoilers will vary from mild to wild depending on which option you choose.
The LT6 V8 engine is what really gets everyone excited. It’s a complete departure from the pushrod mills of old, utilizing a flat-plane-crankshaft design and dual overhead camshafts to create a screamer of an engine that loves to rev. Naturally aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 produces 670 horsepower (505 kilowatts) at an incredible 8,400 rpm – only 200 rpm shy its redline. Although it doesn’t share components with the LT2 V8 in the Stingray’s Stingray, it is the first DOHC-powered V8 in the Corvette. The C4 ZR-1 takes the title. It was powered by a 5.7-liter V8 and produced 405 horsepower.
Chevrolet has not yet released pricing information for the 2023 Z06 but it is expected that it will start at $90,000. Production will start later in the summer.
