Jeep Gladiator to Be Caught Up
Chip shortage:
Global microchip shortage is its latest victim. Stellantis, parent company of Jeep announced it would stop production of the Jeep Gladiator in the next week. It is the first time Jeep has halted production of Jeep Gladiator. However, the shortage of microchips makes it difficult to produce full-scale production.
Next week, Jeep’s Toledo South Assembly Plant will be shut down in Ohio. It’s time for a break from Jeep Gladiator manufacturing. Automakers have had to make difficult decisions due to the shortage of microchips caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The global chip shortage has not been a problem for Jeep. Jeep’s production of the Jeep Cherokee was temporarily halted at their Belvidere, Illinois facility earlier in the year. However, Jeep plans to restart production next week with only one shift. Jeep plans to also restart production of Compass next week at their Toluca plant in Mexico.
Jodi Tinson, Stellantis spokeswoman, told Detriot News that Stellantis is continuing to work with its suppliers to minimize the manufacturing impact of the supply chain problems facing our industry. This supply chain nightmare makes it almost impossible to maintain car production to meet the demand in the COVID-19 economic system. Stellantis has been closing down plants in order to control their supply to meet anticipated demand.
Flagship products such as the Jeep Wrangler get priority over the limited supply, while niche products like Gladiator are left behind. However, you will still be able find a new Gladiator at a dealer lot. Jeep will restart production once they have enough Gladiators to sell. Jeep will continue to build whatever it can using the limited supply of microchips.
