The new model will be available only after 2024.
You did read it correctly. Although the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox was launched only a few months ago we already have to talk about its successor. We are talking about the new generation of the SUV, not just the mid-cycle refresh. Although it won’t be available until 2024, we have the first details.
A new report from GM Authority states that the 2025 Equinox will be in production at GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico in May 2024. The current Equinox will remain in production until the early 2025. This means that the two generations should overlap for nine months.
According to the online publication, the 2025 Equinox will also be manufactured at three different plants. It will be assembled at three different plants, including the Ramoz Arizpe in Mexico, and the CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll (Canada). The model will be available for assembly at the second Mexican plant starting in November 2024. It will also be available for assembly at the Canadian factory beginning in February 2025.
The model will be sold along with the third-generation Equinox during the first year of the fourth-generation Equinox. The two models should be very different, however, as the new Equinox will use GM’s VSSF architecture. The 2021 Equinox, on the other hand, is based upon the GM D2 platform.
The Equinox will be receiving a major refresh in the 2022 MY. Preliminary information suggests that the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine could be removed from the SUV. The 1.5-liter turbo will remain the only powertrain option for the model year 2022.
