Can the Mustang be trained to banish the Demon from its natural environment?
The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 won’t be able to beat the Dodge Challenger RT Demon on the drag strip. Ford has the monster Mustang running 10.7 seconds in quarter time. This has been supported by a 10.6-second pass on camera. Dodge listed the Demon’s quarter mile time at 9.6 seconds when it was launched. Even though there have been very few stock Demons that close,
However, this Demonology video doesn’t show a Shelby Shelby against a Demon. While the Demon’s GT500 is modified in this contest, it is bone-stock and has a full interior. The 17-minute video doesn’t even mention a tune, so we don’t know how the GT500 is modified. We don’t even know how many horsepower Ford produces, though it is likely to be more than the stock rating at 760 ponies.
Although it may seem unfair to pit a modified Shelby against an stock Demon, there is arguably some balance in tires. The Demon is seen strutting its stuff on the strip using sticky drag radials while the GT500 still runs street tires on 20-inch wheels. arguably is not used here to level the playing field but because it gives Demon an incredible drag strip advantage.
The Mustang loses two races. We won’t try to be funny or coy about the result. Two races are lost by the Mustang It is very bad. Both cars launch as expected. The Demon departs the starting line looking like a missile on drag slicks with a time of 1.3 60 feet. The GT500 is limited to a 2.0 60-foot time. This is only possible for cars that have less than half of Shelby’s power. The GT500 is faster than the Demon at 144 mph trap speed.
However, drag races of quarter mile length are decided at the start line. Pavement-wrinkling launches with front tires in the air is precisely what the Demon was designed to do. The Dodge round is now complete.
