The powertrain package that makes max power for all the series competitors is 671 horsepower.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is now an EV in the new ETCR series. This series is for electric vehicles that are derived from production cars. The machine is being created by the Romeo Ferraris team in Monza, Italy. Competition will begin in 2020.
Romeo Ferraris posted the first Instagram image of the race car (below). This crew is the ETCR Series’ first non-factory team. Cupra and Hyundai are two other automaker-backed entries.
The ETCR series will begin in 2020 with four races, but it is expected that the number of events will increase in 2021. The ETCR rules require that the machines be driven by a four- to five-door production vehicle. They must use an electric motor of 402 horsepower (300kilowatts) and 671 horsepower (500 kW), respectively, as their starting point. These models are powered by a 65-kilowatt hour battery. The rear wheels would be driven by a single-gear transmission.
Each vehicle has a motor, gearbox and inverter. However, the teams will need to figure out how to place it inside the chassis.
After designing and manufacturing the Giulietta version for the TCR series, Romeo Ferraris has experience racing Alfa Romeos. It has won both the TCR International Series as well as the FIA WTCR.
“After giving the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR some of the best results possible, we are now taking a bold dive into the ETCR series concept. In its announcement to take the Giulia race, Michela Cerruti (Operations Manager at Romeo Ferraris) stated that electric is the best choice for the future.
