The Electrified Genesis G80 proves it’s a genuine sports sedan

All-new Genesis G80 has gone electric. The V8-powered genesis G80s are gone to make way for the dual-motor Genesis G80 electric. The G80 EV is the base of this exciting EV luxury sedan. However, it has a few key features which will make it more competitive against bespoke EV competitors. Asian Petrolhead took the G80 electric sedan on the streets of Korea, to find out if it is an enjoyable electric sports sedan. The electrified Genesis G80 will go on sale in 2021. It is powered by two 182 horsepower (136 Kilowatts), motors that are mounted on each axle. This gives it a total output of 364 horsepower (272 kW). The floor-mounted 87.2 Kilowatt Hour battery powers these power electric motors and provides a range of approximately 265 miles.

Dual motors ensure that the G80 EV has all-wheel drive that can be used for all weather performance and acceleration off the line. Genesis claims that the G80 EV can accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds, which is comparable to the G80 Sport. Genesis’s G80 EV is their first venture into electric vehicles. There are many more models that will follow. Genesis can easily adapt this floor-mounted battery pack and two electric motors to their expanding line of luxury SUVs or sedans. Hyundai will launch Ioniq, an EV-focused subbrand due to the increasing competition in this space. The Hyundai brand will be able to create more competitive EV tech and amortize the development costs across its expanding brand portfolio with this new brand.
