It took eight weeks total to complete.
There have been life-sized LEGO copies of vehicles in the past. In November Renault used over 600,000 pieces in order to create its RS 17 F1 car. Back in August McLaren recreated its 720S sports car using more than 267,000 LEGO bricks. The Toyota Camry is now a brick icon.
Toyota of Australia ordered the LEGO vehicle to be displayed at the Brickman Awesome exhibition in Melbourne. The sedan was built from more than 500,000 LEGO pieces and took over 900 hours to complete. It took eight weeks to complete. The 800-pound LEGO piece is almost identical to the current Camry, with working indicators, headlights, brake lights and indicators. It also features the Toyota logo on the wheels and rear bumper.
Ryan McNaught, a master LEGO builder, created it. He is the only professional LEGO certified in the southern hemisphere and one of 14 worldwide. McNaught said, “I am so excited to unveil my latest LEGO creation – the life-sized Toyota Camry at Brickman Awesome in Melbourne.” It took over two months to construct and consists of more than 500,000 bricks. But, I am really happy with the result and can’t wait for everyone’s opinions!
The Brickman Awesome exhibition, which runs from March 21 through 29, will feature 40 LEGO creations. It will not only be the largest, but it will also be the most intricate sculpture on display.
Nicolas Hogios, chief designer at Toyota Australia, said that the new Toyota Camry will be presented in a fun and interactive setting to Melburnians. It’s incredible to see the car assembled in such a quick manner – very similar to our design process in Australia.
