It is a modern interpretation of the classic Japanese meditation garden.
If you are a Lexus enthusiast, you will know that the company uses creativity and design as a way to promote its cars. Toyota’s luxury arm, which uses keywords that revolve around art and craftsmanship (or any Japanese equivalent), wants you to be aware that their cars are made with pure creativity.
But it doesn’t stop there. Lexus wants people to express their art with Lexus cars. This is what led to the creation of the Lexus UX Art Car design competition. The contest’s second year saw the winner being awarded a compact crossover that has been covered in a thousand petals.
The Zen Garden is the winning piece. It aims to show a classic Japanese meditation garden. Clap Studio, Valencia, Spain submitted the winning piece. It was one of six submissions to Lexus Spain. Jordi Iranianzo and Angela Montagud were inspired by the UX’s key characteristics of design, innovation, technology, and detail.
“Lexus is the perfect harmony in our Zen garden. It is the union between nature, technology and innovation. Iranzo said that the creation by man of geometric lines and perfect symmetry is covered in plant life.
Montagud said that paper was used to cover the car’s exterior with Lexus vegetation. This gives it volume. “Light is an essential quality in Japanese art, and here it transforms Lexus UX into something living.” It generates a variety of textures and colors depending on the intensity, position, and tone of the light.
The world’s first tattooed car was displayed by the automaker last year. It was done by a British artist using a Lexus UX. It sounds easy, but it took six months for the tattoo artist to finish the work with a Dremel drill instead of a fine needle.
