Manhart turned a brand-new M2 Competition into a beast.
Since the BMW M2’s debut in 2016, it has been praised by journalists and enthusiasts alike. Although it may not be the miracle of nature as the 1M Coupe was, it is a fun, basic sports coupe that recalls the E46 M3. BMW also released the M2 Competition for 2019, a M2 with the M3/M4’s heart.
The engine swap that gave rise to the M2 Competition’s new power boost of 365 horsepower to 405, is a marvellous one. The original M2 N55 3.0-liter Inline Six-cylinder engine is gone. Instead, the S55 3.0-liter six cylinder engine from M3/M4 has been installed. This video shows automotive vlogger Shmee150 visiting Manhart Production in Germany, to see the new M2 Competition, dubbed MH2 550.
Manhart’s version has the highest horsepower count – 550 HP – of all its competitors. This includes factory machines such as the Audi RS3, Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and Porsche 718 Cayman GTS. They have modified the M2 Competition in Manhart’s traditional way to show how tuning can improve an already excellent platform.
The Manhart exterior styling is what you will notice, with its gloss black and golden accents and stripes. The M2 Comp looks factory-like, except for the Manhart exhaust with carbon tips. Turn up the volume while you watch the video to hear their voices. Thanks to the KW lowering springs, the car’s ride height was also reduced by 0.98 inches. The MH2 550’s exterior is finished with 21-inch black wheels with accents in gold.
The interior of the MH2 550’s MH2 550 is almost as good as new, with the exception of the Manhart badge which replaces the original BMW piece on the steering wheel. Everything looks the same as it did when it was new. How did Manhart achieve 550 horsepower and 590 pound-feet torque? It was mainly due to some good old remapping the ECU to unlock all the potential of S55. This M2 packs a lot of power and torque into a compact package. It’s a hoonigans dream come true.
